New Tata Intra Compact Truck - Price, Mileage, Specifications.

The new Tata comes with intra bold styling, premium features, powerful 1.4-liter diesel engine and improved payload capacity of 1100 kg.

Tata Intra, the all-new small commercial vehicle (SCV) of Tata Motors, went on sale officially in India today. The new compact trucks will be available in two variants - V10 and V20 respectively, priced at ₹ 5.35 lakh and ex 5.85 lakh (ex-showroom India) respectively. The new Tata Intra Compact Truck is a premium offering and will be placed above the current range of Ace Mini trucks in India, which will also continue on sale. Compared to Tata Ace, the new intra SCV comes with a host of first-in-segment features to justify the premium price tag.


Tata says the new Intra is targeted towards customers looking for a commercial vehicle that can be both, a workhorse as well as a stylish and comfortable personal vehicle. Someone who is looking to upgrade from Tata Ace. Thus, you will see that the new Tata comes with a set of elements like the intra passenger car, which is outside as well as inside. The exterior bit includes - a large front grille with chrome slate, halogen light and a set of good looking clear glass headlamps with integrated turn indicators. The Intra also gets a bold and busy-looking bumper with a wider central air dam and provision for fog lamps. The new compact truck runs on a set of 14-inch steel wheels with the option of smart-looking dual-tone wheel covers, which are really good-looking and well-designed. The vehicle also gets large manually operated ORVMs and dual wipers, which, in addition to these subtle character lines, add to the Intra's style quotient.


The Tata Intra comes with a well-laid-out cabin, with a clean dashboard that comes with contrast as opposed to the center console and air-con vents. Also, because the gear lever is positioned on the dashboard, resulting in a flat walk-through floor. Other features include a charging socket, lockable glovebox, a standard music system with radio, aux-in and USB connectivity and a fully digital instrument cluster, speedometer, odometer, timing, fuel gauge, and a segment-first read- Out offers included. Gear Shift Indicator, or Tata as it is called Gear Shift Advisor (GSA).


In terms of dimensions, the new Tata Intra is on par with the larger Tata Ace on offer, the Ace Mega XL, which has a total length of 4316 mm, width 1639 mm and height 1918 mm. Having said that, the Intra segment comes with one of the largest loading bay areas, with a 2512 mm long load deck that is 1602 mm wide and with a standard depth of 463 mm. In fact, 1100 kg with intra-segment-best payload capacity, 100 kg more than the Ace Mega XL offered. In fact, the vehicle also offers 45-percent best-in-class gradability for easily negotiating steep mountain roads and flyovers, compared to the Ace's 30 percent endemism. Apart from this, the Intra has also got a semi-elliptical leaf spring suspension setup with 6 leaves at the front and 7 leaves at the rear with heavy-performance.


The new Tata Intra V20 is powered by a new 1.4-liter direct injection (DI) diesel engine. The new 1396 cc engine is set to churn out 69 bhp at 4000 rpm and develop a peak torque of 140 Nm at 1800-3000 rpm. The engine comes with a cable shift mechanism for a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Tata Intra V10 800 cc is powered by a two-cylinder motor that develops 39 bhp at 3750 rpm and 90 Nm at 1750 - 2500 rpm and is limited to a four-speed gearbox. In terms of rivals, the new Tata Intra is designed to compete with both, such as pickup trucks such as the Piaggio Porter 1000 and Mahindra Supro, and Mahindra Bolero pickups.
